Newborn Photographer Carmarthenshire

“What should I look for when hiring a newborn photographer?”

The most important thing is trust.

You want someone who’s experienced, calm, and baby-led — someone who can read the room, understand what your little one needs, and adjust accordingly. Look for a photographer who prioritises comfort and safety, but also one who knows how to make you feel at ease in front of the camera (especially when you’re running on very little sleep!).

As a Carmarthenshire family photographer, I’ve worked with many newborns and understand the care and patience that goes into creating a relaxed, natural session — no pressure, no expectations, just your family as you are.

“What can I expect during a newborn photography session?”

My newborn sessions are slow, gentle, and completely baby-led.

We’ll create a safe, cosy space to work in — whether that's your living room, bedroom, or a sunlit corner of your home. I’ll gently guide you through some relaxed poses while also encouraging natural moments of connection to unfold. It’s less about perfection and more about the tiny, meaningful interactions — the way you stroke their hair, the way they grip your finger, the softness of their breathing on your chest.

Feeding, changing, cuddles… it’s all part of it, and we work around your baby’s rhythm. If you have any props or poses in mind, we can absolutely incorporate those too — but at the heart of it all is you and your story.

“When should I book a newborn photography session?”

There’s a common belief that newborn sessions must take place in the first 10–14 days — but let’s be honest, not every baby (or new parent!) is ready for a session that early.

I photograph newborns anywhere from a few days old up to 6–8 weeks, and each stage brings its own beauty. Whether they're fresh and sleepy or just beginning to open their eyes to the world, these moments are still so worth capturing.

That said, I do recommend booking during your pregnancy to ensure availability — especially if you're hoping for a morning slot, which tends to work best while babies are naturally more settled.

“What do I need to do to prepare for the shoot?”

Very little!

If your session is at home, just a quick tidy of the main areas (living room/bedroom) is helpful — but please don’t stress. I’m more than happy to move things around as needed, and I promise I’m not there to judge your washing pile!

To help with wardrobe styling, I offer a small client wardrobe you’re welcome to choose from. Soft, neutral tones always photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your connection. If you'd like help choosing outfits, I’m more than happy to guide you.

“How long will the session last?”

Most newborn sessions last between 1.5–2.5 hours, but I always allow up to 3 hours in my diary just in case.

If your baby needs extra feeds, cuddles, or calming, that’s absolutely fine — we’ll take breaks whenever needed. Some sessions wrap up within an hour, others take a little longer, and both are perfectly normal.

My goal is to create a calm, unhurried space where you and your baby can feel at ease. Because when you're relaxed, the magic happens naturally.
